Rezoning

Solo Exhibition, TAP Centre for Creativity, October 2017

The destruction of our natural habitat and its negative effects on society are examined in Lori Jensen-Brazier's solo exhibit Rezoning. Our disappearing green spaces can be seen through fabricated environments utilizing new and repurposed building materials as well as felled tree sections, print installation, collage, sculpture, video and audio. Rezoning mimics a forest, a cold imitation forest with none of the beauty and serenity of an actual green space. The woodlands are no longer available to offer a sense of balance and escape, instead, an environment of isolation and desolation replace the restorative nature of the forest.

Rezoning echoes the ruination of our forests and farmlands taking place in our own backyards. Many of us are involved and actively participating in this process but are unaware of the consequences of our choices. Rezoning is a visual reminder to the viewer of the need to question the nature of rapid urban expansion and to understand the seriousness of the consequences that follow the loss of our natural habitat.
